Stephen Dalchow from Malden, the first person in the UK to become a proud owner of a Samsung Galaxy Tab
Announced in September, there has been impressive interest in Samsung’s ultra portable Galaxy Tab. As part of a programme to give people in London the chance to ‘tube-test’ the Galaxy Tab on their journey to work before it went on sale, Samsung received over 1000 applications in the space of just two weeks, underlining the public’s interest in the device.
Available at a wide range of retailers from today including Carphone Warehouse, Tesco and Dixons, the Galaxy Tab comes pre-loaded with content that’s been specially designed for the Tab’s 7inch screen including an application from the Financial Times, WHSmith and a portfolio of games from leading developer, Gameloft.
Simon Stanford, Managing Director, Mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland said: “We’re delighted by the interest we’ve seen in Galaxy Tab in the UK and are pleased that consumers will be able to buy the Galaxy Tab from a wide range of retailers as of today. With the device now in the shops over the coming months, we’ll maintain our focus on partnering with leading brands and content providers, such as our recent sponsorship of the Take That Progress Live tour next year, to ensure our customers can continue to enjoy a great range of content on their Galaxy Tabs as well as our other mobile devices.”

• Readers Hub – Samsung Readers Hub consolidates e-reading applications such as eBooks, magazines, and newspapers. Users can enjoy ‘reading’ with unified and intuitive user experience powered by global eReading service leaders, Kobo, PressDisplay and Zinio. More than 2 million books including 1.8 million free books, over 2500 titles of magazines in 20 languages and more than 1600 newspapers in 47 languages are available at launch and will grow the library gradually.
• Social Hub – Keeping users constantly connected with the people in their lives, Samsung’s uniquely integrated phonebook combines personal contact details, e-mail, all major social networking services (SNS) accounts, instant messenger services and calendar details in one easy-to-use platform. Users can seamlessly review SNS status and swiftly choose the most relevant channel of communication – be it email, SMS, instant message and voice calling.
• Music Hub – Music Hub, powered by 7digital, turns your Samsung Galaxy Tab into a portable jukebox. In partnership with 7digital (http://www.7digital.com/), a leading digital music provider, Music Hub provides access to a catalogue of major and independent labels and includes albums ranging from various artists to acts of every genre. All music-related features such as the unified music player, storage, and related applications, can be accessed in one place. The Music Hub utilises the powerful 7digital API to deliver a feature rich music store including new release updates, top chart information and tailored recommendations. With the enhanced Music Hub player, users can create a playlist with their own tunes or flag their favourites. The 7digital music store is available in over 32 countries and contains over 10 million tracks. The availability of Samsung Music Hub will be decided based on market preferences.
• Google Mobile Services – Services like Google Maps™ Navigation (Beta) and Google Goggles are available on Google’s Android platform. With useful location-based services like Google Maps, consumers can search in Standard English instead of entering an exact address. A search-by-voice function is just as intuitive, meaning searches can also be completed easily on the go. Google Goggles is a powerful, visual search tool that uses the Samsung Galaxy Tab’s camera to uncover information – an image of a landmark or artwork is automatically used to perform a search, delivering relevant content like a description or history. In addition, with a camera, users can enjoy various augmented reality services which are downloadable in the application market.
• More applications will be available from Samsung Apps.
